FSUID Press Release
(February 8, 2005)

Microsoft SysAdmin Practices Seminar (Today!)FSUID/Active Directory Integration

What:   Microsoft SysAdmin Practices Seminar (Feb - 2005) – FSU E-directory (FSUID) and AD Integration

Who:    Jeff Bauer (Director-Academic Information Services)

When:   Today, Tuesday, Feb 8th, 1pm-2pm

Where:  CSIT Seminar Room, 4th Floor Dirac Bldg

Howdy all,

Today, Jeff Bauer will be presenting on the FSU E-directory, better known as FSUID, its usage and capabilities, and its potential integration with not just the “FSU” AD tree, but with independent AD trees within the University.

The potential uses for this tool are vast, and although Mr. Bauer is a much better advocate than me, I can assure you WILL learn some interesting things during this presentation. For example, the FSU AD tree and the College of Medicine AD tree are currently utilizing the Edir to populate Active Directory User attributes (like Department, Office and phone numbers, etc) and synchronize passwords with University identities such as CARS(Garnet and Mailer) , SecureLogin etc. This capability of the system is very simple to implement. There is also a pilot program underway to have Edir POPULATE user accounts in an AD tree. Think about it, no more manual entries of your new accounts – if a person is hired (or admitted as a student), and assigned to your department, an account is created for you. Mind you, this is still VERY much a pilot, but you can extrapolate the possibilities here ? You will also learn about ongoing efforts to utilize the FSUID as a true "Single Sign On" ide! ntity for not only the OMNI system, but BlackBoard, SecureLogin and more.

I won’t steal any more of Mr. Bauer’s thunder, but please put it on your calendar and join us for a VERY interesting session.
